EFCC boss declared wanted
The House of Representatives Committee on Public Petitions on Wednesday has issued an arrest warrant against the EFCC acting chairman for refusing to show up at a hearing involving the commission and former First Lady Patience Jonathan.
Ibrahim Magu is expected to be bundled in to the hearing on November 7.
The commission has frozen accounts linked to Patience and her associates. The matter is in appeal court following a judgement Patience secured to unfreeze her accounts.
But Patience petitioned the House of Reps claiming that the EFCC and other agencies like the Federal Inland Revenue Service and the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency have been harassing her and her family.
According to the committee chair, Abia PDP Hon. Uzoma Nkem-Abonta, Magu has not honoured all the invitations to testify at the hearing.
The NDLEA and FIRS had been appearing before the panel to respond to the petition.
The motion on arrest was moved by the Chairman, House Committee on Public Accounts, Hon. Kingsley Chinda.
“The absence of the EFCC is making our work difficult. We are not against the EFCC doing its work but they have to comply with the law. With no counter motion, the motion on arrest warrant is hereby sustained,” said Nkem-Abonta.
The committee also ordered all the companies involved to submit their statements of audited accounts to the FIRSwithin two weeks—for assessment of compliance level.
