Ajiran Murder: Group seeks suspect’s release, tasks Attorney General, Obasa

A group-Citizens Rights Against Abuse in conjuction with the Ajiran Community has urged Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, to prevail on the state’s Attorney General Pedro Lawal SAN and the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) to expedite actions in the case of a murder suspect Alhaji Tajudeen Ahmed Akanbi in order to get him released at the next adjourned date.

In a peaceful walk to the state’s assembly on Monday, the group of protesters led by the group’s Secretary Emmanuel Kolawole wielding banners, placards with bold inscriptions to state their demands, besieged the assembly to intervene in the matter.

The placard reads, “Muiz Banire Aare Bashir Fakorede land grabber is the real murderer”, “Youth of Ojomu Royal Family of Ajiran Eti Osa. Let justice prevail Lagos government don’t Allow Ahmed Tajudeen to be killed”, “Muiz Banire please let justice prevail stop your interference on Ajiran matters for the sale of our land”, “Femi Falana you aren’t known for human rights abuses stop in the case of Ahmed Tajudeen”.

“Jide Akinloye!!! You can’t be lawyer of the Ajiran 8 years in the house of Assembly and 8 years in the house of reps when your father is the king”, “Aare Bashir Fakorede known land grabber. The real thief who has nothing to do than to steal, kill and destroy”.

According to the Kolawole there is a grand plot to keep Tajudeen behind bars to get him killed while there.

“We are here to submit our letter to the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, to prevail on the Attorney General of Lagos State in the case of Alhaji Ahmed Tajudeen Akanbi who is being held in custody, not to serve justice as a matter of friendship. Before the adjourned date in the next 48 hours DPP should issue the required legal advise on the case.

It will be recalled that the defendant, Hammed Tajudeen Akanbi, 38, was arraigned on multiple charges, including conspiracy to commit murder, criminal intimidation, membership of an unlawful society, and alleged attempts to obstruct the course of justice in the trial of murders of two influential Ajiran residents.

Kolawole also faulted the pronouncement attributed to the police, “It is morally wrong for a police to declare somebody wanted. He has been refused bail having been arrested.

“The DPP had equally refused to advise or give report on whether he has a case to answer or not.

“We got an intell that the grand plan was to kill him. For which they declared him wanted. Report to DPP states that he has no connections with the arrested suspects or regarding the murder case.

He further alleged that lawyers of the other camp are friends of the Attorney General that Muiz Banire SAN and Femi Falana SAN which informs why Tajudeen have been refused bail for over two month since he has been held in custody.

Claiming that Femi Falana SAN said he should be prosecuted of murder without a pronouncement from a court of competent jurisdiction, also declaring him a murderer, “we feel the parties involved have been compromised”.

A member of Centre for Citizens Rights Protection Samuel Isijiola in solidarity with Ajiran community condemned the plan to make an innocent man suffer for nothing.

“No DPP legal response. It is a case of class intimidation by state actors. Ahmed Tajudeen should not be killed, let the law take it’s cause. State should follow due process.

Another protester Mr. Bayo Agbabiaka added that Tajudeen’s release is a must because he is being held wrongly for a murder case he has no involvement.

“He has not done anything that warrant keeping him in custody. It is just a case of giving a dog a bad name in order to hang the dog.

“They should grant him bail. Ahmed deserves to be freed it is two months in custody, I am his father I don’t want him to stay in their custody for no reason, he should not remain there perpectually.’

Alhaja Aisha Wahab one of the protesters also canvassed for his release owing to his fast deteriorating health status.

“Free him now, he has no case to answer, his health is deteriorating he should be allowed to go and take his medicals.”
