Atiku unveils economic, security reform agenda at ADC presidential screening in Abuja
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Wednesday appeared before the presidential screening panel of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), where he presented a broad reform blueprint targeting Nigeria’s deepening economic and security crises ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The screening exercise, held in Abuja, provided the opposition figure an opportunity to outline what he described as “tested and practical solutions” to address insecurity, unemployment, and economic instability.
According to a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Mr. Phrank Shaibu, the session went beyond routine party procedures and served as a platform for policy interrogation and engagement.
Atiku told the panel that his proposed administration would prioritise urgent and aggressive interventions to confront the country’s worsening security situation, which he said has continued to undermine national stability and economic productivity.

He expressed concern over escalating cases of kidnappings, killings, and violent attacks in several parts of the country, warning that persistent insecurity was eroding public confidence and discouraging investment.
The former Vice President also criticised the prevailing economic environment, lamenting rising unemployment, business closures, and declining investor confidence. He attributed these challenges to what he called inconsistent and unpredictable policy directions over time.
“Nigeria cannot continue on this path where hardship persists, businesses collapse and investors lose confidence because of policy uncertainty,” Atiku was quoted as saying during the engagement.
The screening forms part of ADC’s internal preparations as political parties begin early positioning ahead of the 2027 presidential contest.
