Buhari holds urgent meeting with Emefiele after Supreme Court sitting
President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday held an urgent meeting with the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, after the Supreme Court sitting on the suit by state governments challenging the naira redesign policy, essentially the deadline on the swap of the redesigned notes. The court had at the Wednesday sitting adjourned hearing to February 22.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, had acknowledged that Emefiele was anticipated expected to meet President Buhari, noting that the CBN governor held meeting with the President after the Federal Executive Council meeting Wednesday.
The Supreme Court at the resumed sitting on Wednesday reiterated its February 8 order restraining the Federal Government and the CBN from enforcing the February 10 deadline for the swap of the old N200, N500 and N1,000 notes with new ones, insisting that the order still stands, and that the notes remain legal tenders in the country.
