Buhari holds urgent Council of State meeting on naira redesign crisis

President Muhammmadu Buhari on Friday convened urgent National Council of State meeting in Abuja to look into the crisis over the naira redesign policy, essentially, the limited period allowed for the swap of the new Naira notes with the old notes.

The Friday Council of State meeting is being attended by former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon; and former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar; former President Goodluck Jonathan, while former President Olusegun Obasanjo participated virtually.

Other participants at the meeting include Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, the President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan; Speaker of the House of Representatives, Right Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila; Governors Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State, Darius Ishaku of Taraba State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, Babagana Zulum of Borno State.

Governors who participated  virtually include Ademola Adeleke of Osun State, Abubakar Badaru of Jigawa State, Yahaya Bello  of Kogi State, Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi State, Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State, Simon Lalong of Plateau State and the Deputy Governors Nasarawa state and Bauchi state.

Other participants include the Minister of the FCT, Mohammed Bello; Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha; Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele; INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, who is physically present is expected to brief the council on the preparations ahead of the 2023 elections.

All the Service Chiefs and Heads of security agencies were physically present at the meeting.
