Casualties as bandits attack military base in Sokoto
Bandits at the weekend struck at a joint military base in Sabon Birni Local Government Area, Sokoto State.
The Commissioner for Carriers and Security Matters in Sokoto State, Colonel Garba Moyi (rtd), acknowledged the attack but could not confirm the casualties. However, many people were said to be killed in the attack.
The bandits were said to have struck at the military base, named “Burkusuma Camp”, in the early hours of Friday. Unconfirmed number of military officers were said to be killed.
The bandits were also said to have invaded the military base, shooting wildly as they moved in, burning two patrol vehicles, stealing another patrol vehicle, and using it to carry food items they stole from the residents.
However, the military have deployed over 10 trucks transporting army officers in search of the bandits in the forest around the zone.
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) was said to have lost three personnel in the attack.
The bandits were said to have proceeded on further operations to Katsira, where they killed four persons, also kidnapped three persons.
