Casualties as prop gun discharges killer bullets on movie set

In an accident involving American actor Alec Baldwin and others on a movie set, one person has been shot dead and another wounded.

The incident happened on Thursday.

A spokesman for the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office, Juan Rios, revealed that the cinematographer, 42-year-old Halyna Hutchins was killed, and the director, 48-year-old Joel Souza, was injured around 1.50pm.

The 63-year-old actor was on the movie set of “Rust,” which was being filmed at Santa Fe County in New Mexico when the fatal accident happened, New York Times reported.

Rios stated that the shooting happened in the middle of the scene and the circumstances of the occurrence are under investigation.

According to the official, the Sheriff’s Office was conducting interviews with the people present on the set to determine how the incident occurred.

“We’re trying to determine right now how and what type of projectile was used in the firearm,” he said.

The official on Thursday night said charges are yet to be filed against anyone as regards the shooting.

Rios said that after the shooting, Ms. Htchins was flown to the University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque, where she later died.

He added that the injured director was taken to Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center in Santa Fe but no information has been made available on his condition.

Baldwin’s representative and the film producers did not immediately respond to emails or phone calls on Thursday night, the official said.
