Check out the Nigerian town that has one half in Nigeria & the other half in Niger Republic

There is a town in Nigeria that shares its borders with three different countries, this town shares its borders between Nigeria and Niger Republic, River Niger also runs through this town to Benin Republic. Dole Kaina has one part of the town in Kebbi Stae, Nigeria and the other half in Dosso State, Niger Republic.

Half of this town speaks English, while the other half speaks French. This town has people of different nationalities. Most of the inhabitants of this town can speak Hausa, English, French, and Zarma. Zarma is a popular indigenous language in Niger Republic. Most children born in this town can speak all four different languages.

One half of Dole is located in the Dandi Local Government Area of Kebbi State, while the other half is located in the Doutchi District of Dosso State in Niger Republic.

Both halves of the town bear the same name, and its just a small gutter that separates the two countries of Nigeria and Niger Republic.

According to Ousmane, who is a counselor in Niger Republic, he said that both towns live in peace and harmony. As a matter of fact, he has three wives from three different countries – Nigeria, Niger, and the Republic of Benin. His nine children can speak Hausa, Zarma, English, and French fluently, they usually eat three different foods from the nationalities of his wives.

The District Head of Dole-Kaina, Marafa Muhammadu Bello, who took over in the year 2008, after the death of his father, talked about the peace and harmony in Dole.

He said that one portion of the town is occupied by a community from Niger and that the Nigerians live with them in peace and harmony. He said that they use the Nigerian currency for transactions, and they share thesame market. He said that border is so free to the extent that you wont notice when you cross from Niger to Nigeria. He said that there’s no demarcation between the two countries, but they usually hold security meetings to monitor the people that come in and out of their town.

They are into the farming of rice, millet, sorghums, and vegetables. Muhammadu Bello said that flood usually disturbs them in this town, but they don’t have a good road network, he said that the government promised to provide them with good roads very soon. In the Palace of Sarkin Yamman Dole, the village head in Niger, Abdullahi Yamma, revealed that he has been on the throne for decades. He said that he has seen so many inter-marriages between people from the two communities, and that the inter-marriages has improved their cordial relationship.

He said that they have lived in harmony with their Nigerian counterparts  for so many years, but that their youths usually have small fights from time to time. He said that youths from both sides usually fight over girls, but they usually settle their cases amicably. From the main road of Kamba-Dole-Kaina, the town looks like a quiet community, but when you get to the waterfront, you will see many activities going on, with canoe operators, businessmen and women, commercial motorcyclists, and consumers in the hustle and bustle at the habour.

For ages, Dole Kaina water front has served as a commercial hub for the people of Nigeria, Niger and Benin Republic. Transportation also goes on on the sea. Umaru Mamuda, who specializes in canoe construction and renovations, said that the canoes are very expensive to construct. He said that the big canoes cost over N2 million, to put them together. He said that the canoes are very expensive because of the high cost of materials that are used to make these canoes.

He said that they use special planks of timber to make the canoes, that the planks cost between N200,000 to N300,000. Good canoes like this can consume up to 2.4 million to build while passenger canoes cost between N500,000 to N700,000 to make.

People from this town are highly engages in various kinds of businesses including, textile, crops and livestock, and so many more. Hadiza Garba, who is from Niger Republic, said that she is very happy to say that she lives and surives with her fish business.
