Court convicts 3 teenagers for circulating nude video to 4 years imprisonment
A Chief Magistrate Court in Sokoto State on Tuesday convicted three teenagers, identified as Aminu Hayatu Tafida, Umar Abubakar and Mas’ud Abubakar Gidado to four years imprisonment or an option of fine of N400,000 for circulating nude video of a potential bride.
The presiding Magistrate, Chief Magistrate Shu’aibu Ahmad, in his judgement, convicted the teenagers on charges including abetment, indecent act, sale and printing of obscene book and circulation of an 18 second nude video.
Chief Magistrate Shu’aibu Ahmad acknowledged that the teenagers were first time offenders who had just realised the consequences of their action.
The Chief Magistrate sentenced each defender on obscene and indecent acts, to a fine of N200,000 and failure to meet the fine, they will each be imprisoned for two years.
The Chief Magistrate, on the sale of obscene books, convicted each teenager to a fine of N50,000 or two years imprisonment. The Magistrate stated that on charges of abetment, each of the teenagers was convicted to a fine of N50,000, or six months imprisonment.
Chief Magistrate Ahmad further ordered each teenager to pay N100,000 compensation to the complainant.
The Chief Magistrate, however, noted that counsels to the defendants have the right to appeal the judgement if not satisfied. He was of the view that the judgement will serve as a deterrent to others.
