Court upholds Bassey Otu as APC gov candidate in Cross River
The Federal High Court, Calabar, Cross River State, on Monday upheld Bassey Otu as the duly nominated governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state for the 2023 elections.
The presiding judge of the Federal High Court, Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu, in her judgment in a suit by Owan Enoh, an APC governorship aspirant in the state, seeking the disqualification of Otu, said that the matter of determination of a governorship candidate of a political party is, still remains the right of a political party. The judge added that Otu had not breached any section of the constitution. She noted: “That a candidate contesting for the position of a governor must be a Nigerian, meet the stipulated age requirement and have basic qualification according to the constitution.”
