Covenant University (CU) has been recognized as Nigeria’s top university in the latest Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings for 2025.

This achievement underscores the institution’s commitment to providing qualitative education.

The Times Higher Education Rankings are widely regarded as authoritative, evaluating universities based on various empirical indicators, including research facilities, faculty quality, and innovation.

In this year’s rankings, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, secured the second position, followed by Landmark University, which shares ownership with Covenant University under Bishop David Oyedepo of Winners Chapel International.

Notably, the University of Ibadan dropped from second place in 2024 to fourth in the 2025 rankings.

The THE Rankings assessed over 2,000 institutions from 115 countries and territories.

Globally, the University of Oxford continues to hold the top spot for the ninth consecutive year, supported by advancements in industry engagement and teaching. The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) claimed second place, while Stanford University fell to sixth.

The rankings are based on 18 meticulously calibrated performance indicators that measure institutional performance across five areas: teaching, research environment, research quality, industry engagement, and international outlook.
