Disquiet over third bid for Edo south senatorial seat
There is rising disquiet over the tussle for third slot of senatorial ticket in Edo South Senatorial District, Edo State. Some stakeholders in the state have argued that any consideration for third term ticket to represent Edo South Senatorial in the National Assembly must revisit the historical trend of early representation of the district over the years.
The stakeholders noted that Ehigie Uzamere served two terms in the Senate, representing Edo South Senatorial District in the National Assembly. They noted that Uzamere resisted pressures from his supporters to return to the Senate for a third term. Uzamere declined contesting for third term and supported Mathew Urhoghide to go to the senate.
“The Distinguished Senator refused and openly supported Distinguished Senator Mathew Urhoghide for fairness and equity.
“All intentions to change the norm in Edo South to a third term will have to start from the first person who did two terms. He is still alive, hale, healthy, and ready to still serve. “We must now call on him to come to start the third term processes. He will be more ranking than others,” the stakeholders declared.
The crux of the controversy is the plan of Urhoghide to contest for a third term in the 2023 general elections after serving two terms. The expectation is that he steps down for a new person from the district
