EFCC nabs fake senator who defrauded foreigner of €5.7m
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested a “fake senator” who also posed as a Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agent in Abuja.
In a statement on Monday, Wilson Uwujaren, EFCC head of media and publicity, said the suspect, Ifechukwu Tom Makwe, was arrested in the Guzape area of Nigeria’s capital city.
Wilson said the suspect was apprehended after the commission received credible intelligence concerning his “fraudulent internet activities”.

He said the suspect had defrauded a Spaniard of the sum of €5.7 million, adding that he uses different identities to carry out his illicit activities.
“Upon arrest, it was discovered that the suspect, bearing many aliases (Fahad Makwe, Senator Tompolo, Tom Makwe, Dr. Bran), defrauded a Spaniard of five million, seven hundred thousand euros (€5.7million),” the statement reads.
“Makwe allegedly claimed to be a US FBI agent and diplomatic solicitor, and succeeded in defrauding his victim using fake identities. The suspect allegedly started defrauding the victim since 2013 when he first met her on social media.”
The EFCC spokesperson added that the suspect will be arraigned after the conclusion of investigation.
