Emergency! Benin-Akure highway caves in; motorists, travellers stranded
Following hours of rainfall September 6, the Benin-Akure highway in the Ifon axis of Ose LGA, Ondo, got washed away on Monday, and passengers as well as motorists were stranded
Locals said the area was flooded as a result of the rain, before a section of the road caved in.
According to some motorists who were stuck, the only option left to link Akure and Benin was to take a longer route.
They maintained that motorists will have to go through Ore to connect Benin-Lagos highway before getting to Akure.
Youths in Omilafia village mobilised themselves and blocked the road to prevent accidents.
A number of federal highways have got some section washed away as the volume of rainfall increases in lately.
Last week, the Kabba-Obajana highway also had a similar problem as a section fell off because of erosion resulting from flooding.
Traffic is now diverted through Ore to connect the Lagos-Benin highway.
