Emulate Shagari’s virtues, Atiku urges Nigerians

The Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), former Vice President Atiku Aubakar, on Saturday said that Nigerians should emulate the virtues of the late President Shehu Shagari who worked for the entrenchment of democracy in Nigeria.
Atiku Abubakar said this while fielding questions from journalists while paying a condolence visit to the family of the late President in Sokoto on Saturday.
The former Vice President’s condolence visit to the family of the late President Shehu Shagari at which he was joined by former Head of State and Chairman of the National Peace Committee, Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar, was said to have come barely 24.hours after his return to the country.
Atiku and Abdulsalami after signing the condolence register had described the late Shagari as “one of those who strengthened Nigeria’s democracy and as such his death has become a national loss.”
Responding on behalf of the family, Shagari’s eldest son, Bala Shagari said that it is comforting for the family to hear the soothing words of those visiting to condole with them.
