Enugu man arrested for allegedly killing ex-girlfriend over wedding news
A man identified as Ogbonna, popularly known by the nickname “Mourinho,” has been arrested in connection with the alleged murder of his former girlfriend, Chisom Ayogu, in the Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State.
The incident reportedly occurred at Ogbonna’s residence along New Anglican Road, where Chisom had visited to share the joyful news of her forthcoming wedding.
Chisom, a native of Amufie community in Igbo-Eze North LGA, had once dated Ogbonna, who is from Igogoro, another community in the same local government area.
According to witnesses, what started as a seemingly friendly visit quickly turned violent following an argument between the two. The confrontation allegedly escalated into a physical attack, leaving Chisom severely injured and unconscious.
“She was breathing faintly when we got there,” a local resident said, recalling the moment neighbors intervened after hearing commotion from Ogbonna’s apartment.

She was rushed to a nearby hospital, but medical personnel pronounced her dead on arrival.
The Enugu State Police Command has confirmed Ogbonna’s arrest and stated that he is currently in custody undergoing interrogation. Investigators are working to uncover the motive behind the fatal altercation.
Chisom’s death has sent shockwaves through both the Amufie and Igogoro communities, igniting calls for justice and renewed awareness around gender-based violence.
Authorities have promised a thorough investigation, while community leaders and family members await the outcome of the ongoing inquiry.
