Father trapped in septic tank dies with son trying to rescue him
Rumuekini, in Obio Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers, has witnessed a tragedy: a father and his son choked to death inside a septic tank.
The two died Saturday while trying to empty the septic tank.
Eyewitnesses said it was the father that first fell in there. And while he floundered in the mush and its stench, his son came to his rescue.
But the son got trapped, too. No help came while they struggled in the cesspit.
Smell of kerosene, according to neighbours, also blew out of the tank.
Human waste naturally produces methane when it decomposes.
A police rescue team from the Choba division came—after the two had died—to evacuate their remains.
