Fayemi resigns from Buhari’s cabinet
The Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has announced his resignation from the Federal Executive Council (FEC), which he ought to have done before contesting the governorship primary election of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Fayemi has, however, given up his appointment as a Minister in the President Muhammadu Buhari’s cabinet to concentrate in the preparations for the July 14, 2018, governorship election in Ekiti State. .
Fayami won the APC governorship primary election on May 12 to the party’s ticket for the July election.
The former minister made the announcement on Wednesday at a valedictory briefing in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, saying he was leaving in order to pursue his governorship ambition in Ekiti State.
National Daily recalled that Misiliu Obanikoro, former Minister of State, Defence, reassigned to contest the governorship election in Lagos in 2015 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), though he lost the ticket to Jimi Agbaje in the party’s primary election. More so, incumbent Governor Ishiaku Darius also resigned his ministerial appointment to contest the governorship election in Taraba State on the platform of the PDP, which he subsequently won.
