FG receives Benin Bronzes repatriated from Germany
The federal government has received some repatriated Benin Bronze from the German government. German officials handed over the artefacts to officials of the Nigerian government at the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abuja.
The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, at the handover ceremony, said that the federal government is setting up infrastructure near the National Museum in Benin City, Edo State, to provide safe place for repatriated artifacts.
The Information Minister also called on the British government, other nations and institutions still holding on to Nigeria’s artifacts to emulate Germany and repatriate them.
The Federal Government noted that Germany has written its name in Gold in Nigeria’s History for its act of kindness , sincerity and Justice in returning the highest number of Benin Bronzes to Nigeria.
