FG suspends 13 students in Enugu over bullying incident, vows tougher measures

In a determined step to combat school bullying, the Federal Government has suspended 13 students of Federal Government College, Enugu, for six weeks. This measure, spearheaded by the Minister of Education,

Dr. Tunji Alausa, follows the emergence of a distressing video that revealed the gang assault of an SS1 student by a group of peers on November 7.

Dr. Alausa underscored the government’s dedication to safeguarding students, stating, “We are committed to maintaining a safe and conducive learning environment in all federal schools across the country.”

The incident, which spread rapidly on social media, prompted an immediate investigation by a disciplinary committee formed by the Federal Ministry of Education.

The ministry’s preliminary findings confirmed the involvement of 13 students, leading to their suspension pending further investigation. The report highlighted.

“The incident involved the gang assault of an SS1 day student by a group on November 7, as evidenced in a video that circulated widely online.” The investigation’s outcome will guide further actions regarding the students’ status.

To ensure a comprehensive inquiry, the School Based Management Committee has been tasked to work with security agencies to examine any potential links to external influences.

Additionally, measures to reinforce campus security have been introduced, including heightened law enforcement presence and a reassessment of safety protocols.

Dr. Alausa emphasized the government’s plan for long-term solutions, including counseling and rehabilitation services aimed at fostering a supportive school atmosphere and aiding affected students’ reintegration.

This decisive response by the Federal Government reinforces its zero-tolerance stance on bullying, highlighting its commitment to protecting students and fostering a secure, positive educational environment.
