FG, WHO collaborate to eradicate Noma in Sokoto
The Federal Government has directed the newly inaugurated national NOMA technical working group to come up with modalities and strategies of eradicating NOMA disease in Nigeria.
At the inauguration of the technical group in Sokoto, Minister of Health, Isaac Adewole, said, Noma is an acute devastating oro-facial gangrene that occurs mainly in children.
It is known as the disease of the poor.
The disease thrives in an atmosphere of chronic malnutrition, poor environmental sanitation, poor oral hygiene, unsafe water supply among others.
The Federal Government technical group will be collaborating with the World Health Organisation (WHO) towards eradication of the disease in Nigeria.
