Finally, Kylian Mbappe breaks silence with a vow after World Cup defeat
France were on Sunday denied the opportunity to retain the World Cup trophy they won four years ago following their defeat to Argentina in the penalty shoot-out.
Meanwhile, National Daily can confirm that France superstar Kylian Mbappe has vowed that the French team will be back after their defeat.
The 23-year-old was on the losing side despite becoming just the second player in history to score a hat-trick in a World Cup final.
Mbappe scored twice in 90 seconds to take the game to extra-time and he added a third from the penalty spot to take the game to a shootout.
The Paris Saint-Germain star did his bit by scoring in the shootout but Emi Martinez was the hero for Argentina, saving two France efforts.
Mbappe who won the golden boot of the tournament after scoring eight goals was aiming to become the first player since Pele to win back-to-back World Cups, having inspired France to victory in Russia four years ago.
But the day ultimately belonged to Lionel Messi, Mbappe’s club team-mate.
Nevertheless, with eight goals in Qatar, Mbappe is already a bona fide World Cup legend and he’s vowed to come back stronger in 2026.
‘We’ll be back,’ wrote Mbappe, adding the France flag and the prayer emoji to his post.
The forward won the golden boot award in Qatar for his eight goals, which Messi pushed close with seven.
He was also named in the team of the tournament and Mbappe can console himself with the fact that he could feasibly feature in another three tournaments in his career.
