'Flog APC back': Wike's old video resurfaces amid Tinubu re-election push [VIDEO]

An old video of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, urging opposition politicians to confront the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and resist its hold on power has resurfaced on social media, triggering renewed attention to his political positions.

In the video, recorded when Wike was governor of Rivers State, the minister used an analogy involving a confrontation with a madman to emphasise the need for opposition forces to stand their ground against the APC.

Wike argued that opposition politicians should not retreat in the face of political pressure but must demonstrate the determination to challenge the ruling party.

He said: “For you to remove this APC from power… My mother told me that when a madman flogs you, don’t run. If you run, the madman will keep chasing you.

“But if he flogs you, take a stick and flog him back, then the madman will know how painful it is and start running.

“This APC requires people who will tell them that enough is enough.”

The resurfaced footage has attracted attention because of Wike’s current political alignment with the APC-led administration of President Bola Tinubu.

Although Wike remains a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), he has openly supported Tinubu’s presidency and is actively mobilising political support for the president’s re-election bid in 2027.

The former Rivers governor has also pledged to work towards securing electoral victories for the APC in both the FCT and Rivers State, placing him in an unusual position given his former opposition to the ruling party.

His political alignment with the Tinubu administration has continued to generate debate within opposition circles, particularly among PDP members who have questioned his loyalty to the party.

The resurfacing of the video has therefore revived discussions about Wike’s changing political alliances and the contrast between his earlier calls for the removal of the APC from power and his present role in supporting the party’s continued control of the presidency.
