Former NNPC GMD, Maikanti Baru, dies at 60
The former Group Managing Director (GMD) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Dr. Maikanti Baru, was in the early hours of Saturday declared dead.
The incumbent NNPC GMD, Mele Kyari, announced Baru’s death through Twitter on Saturday morning.
“My brother, my friend and my mentor, Dr. Maikanti Kachalla Baru, immediate past GMD of NNPC died late last night.
“He was of exemplary character and disposition. May Allah forgive him and have mercy upon him,” Kyari tweeted.
The statement from the NNPC added that Baru “died after a brief illness in an Abuja hospital.” He died at the age of 60 years.
