Foundation distributes food items to 325 vulnerable children, IDPs
A Non-Governmental Organisation, Hope for the Village Child Foundation, on Thursday distributed food items to 325 vulnerable children and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) living in the foundation’s host community in Kaduna.
The vulnerable children and IDPs were drawn from Kujama, Telele, Kasuwan Magani, Maraban Rido and Jan Ruwa.
Others were Damishi, Marmara and Ganar Isa communities, all located in the suburb of the state.
The food items distributed included rice, beans, maize, vegetable oil, tomato, pastes, onions and seasoning, among others.
The Deputy Director of the foundation, Sister Juliana Ekwoanya, said their encounters with vulnerable people, when on field work, constantly underscored the idea of food donation.
Ekwoanya said that when they go on field exercises on various activities, in line with their foundation’s mission, they often come across women with malnourished children, who sometimes beg them for food.
She said that 300 children were shortlisted for food items.
Ekwoanya further said that the foundation helps women with malnourished children to have medical services.
She said that the food items may not be enough, but would help to cushion the effect of hunger among the beneficiaries.
“In the course of our interaction with vulnerable individuals, some tell us that they sometimes stay a day without food, while others say they go begging,” she said.
Ekwoanya described hunger as a serious threat to human life, hence the foundation usually sought for support to be able to provide food for them.
Some of the beneficiaries, Danladi Yakub and Victoria Bulus, described the foundation’s intervention as timely.
They appealed to other well-meaning Nigerians to emulate the gesture “because people are in very difficult conditions.”
