Ganduje vows to revokes license of any business rejecting old Naira notes in Kano
Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State has dared banks and businesses in the State rejecting the old naira notes, vowing to revoke the operational license of any business rejecting the old notes. The Kano Governor insisted that the old Naira notes of N200, N500 and N1,000 are still legal tenders in Nigeria.
Governor Ganduje also made reference to the a Supreme Court interim injunction which ordered the use of old notes together with new ones until the old ones are phased out.
the governor expressed strong concerns that several businesses are already rejecting old notes, warning that “the old notes are still legal tender and that the government may revoke the licenses of businesses that do not comply.”
The governor declared that “business and economic activities are seriously affected by the naira redesign and unfortunately some self-centered individuals are cashing on the situation to cause further hardship on the people by not accepting the old naira notes during transactions.” He further admonished that “the people have suffered enough untold hardship and, therefore, the state government would not fold its arms and allow a few selfish elements to worsen the situation.”
Ganduje told residents of the state to report anyone who refuses to accept the old naira notes to the appropriate authorities from sanctioning.
