By ESTHER EGBE
AHEAD of his first game in charge of the Super Eagles of Nigeria, Technical Adviser Gernot Rohr has said he is the best coah for the Super Eagles and talks about setting his eyes on the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification.
Rohr had his first game as Technical Adviser of the Super Eagles in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying clash against Tanzania.

“We have a lot of things to do in building the first step to Zambia and we need good preparations. Of course, we want to win and we need all the support to go to the World Cup. We need to see a good image not only on the pitch but in the stands from the fans.”
For the World Cup qualification Nigeria have been drawn Group B with Algeria, Cameroon and Zambia and while admitting that these are tough oppositions, Rohr believes the Super Eagles have bigger motivation to go through.
“You have a big team in Algeria, ranked Number One in Africa at the moment.
Everybody knows Algeria has great players, so it is going to be a big challenge in this group,” the German coach said. He also said he is not bothered about his salary for now, as he is focused on building a formidable national team for the country.
He was responding to a reporter’s question about having thick skin to work with the Nigeria Football Federation known for shoddy treatment of coaches.
Mr. Rohr, a German, said he has experienced such harsh conditions, having worked for six to eight months without salaries as coach of Niger’s national team.
“My problem at the moment is not when my salary is coming; my problem is building a national team,” he said. “We have a contract, and I see everyone who signed the contract as being honest.”
Rohr said he came with “German mentality”, and that he was proud to be in Nigeria. His mission, he said, was to take the country to Russia for the 2018 world cup.
