Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State at the party primary won the senatorial ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Benue Northwest district election in the 2023 general elections.

Ortom won the primary as a consensus candidate. He was the sole aspirant for Benue Northwest senatorial district.

The governor expressed appreciation to the people for having confidence in him. Ortom, at the Government House, Makurdi, on Monday declared: “I appreciate God for today and Benue people, especially Benue Northwest senatorial district, for adopting me as the sole candidate of the PDP for the election in the zone,” he said while addressing reporters on Monday the state capital.

“What can I say? I want to express my inestimable appreciation to the people for standing with me as governor of Benue State and for giving me another opportunity before my tenure finishes.”

The governor felicitating with the PDP State Chairman in Benue, John Ngbede, and some members of the State Executive Council, expressed gratitude to the party and the people for considering him worthy to be the PDP consensus candidate for the 2023 election in Benue Northwest.

The senator currently representing Benue Northwest in the National Assembly, Senator Emmanuel Oker’Jev, had earlier declined seeking re-election.

Governor Ortom, expressing happiness to the people, promised that the well-being of the people in Benue Northwest will be his priority while in the National Assembly.

Ortom declared: “My pledge and commitment to the people is that I will continue to do my best, I will put them first.

“Benue people, especially the Benue Northwest senatorial district will be my priority.

“They will be on my first-line charge in all that I do. I will not leave them. This uncommon support that they have given me, I have nothing to pay back than to remain their loyal servant and to work with them, to give all that I have for their service.”
