Griezmann puts Man Utd on red alert ‘after making decision about future’
Manchester United are taking a keen interest in Antoine Griezmann’s apparent change of heart – but so are Barcelona .
The World Cup winner now appears certain to leave Atletico Madrid with the club failing to make an impact in the Champions League .
They are second in La Liga – but are still ten points behind Barca.
The leaders are keen to widen that gap next season by taking their top scorer and United bosses are also watching closely.
But the two Champions League quarter-finalists, who meet next month in the last eight, aren’t alone. Bayern Munich also want to bring Griezmann to Germany, according to reports in Spain.
The 27 year-old came very close to joining the Catalan giants last summer but agreed a deal to stay at Ateli until 2023.
The suggestion is that he now regrets that commitment – and wants to go.
Griezmann, Sport claim, has ‘put himself on the transfer market’ less than a year after signing his £20million-a-season-contract.
He made the shock announcement last summer on a social media video called ‘La Decision’.
Spanish football expert Guillem Balague said at the time: “He had prepared all this for a long time. All those conversations shown took place in April.
“He spends half-an-hour going like ‘should I go, should I stay’ – there wasn’t much more action to be honest. But it is something that everybody was waiting for, including Atletico Madrid and Barcelona.
“So it is fascinating from the point of view of ‘why is it being done this way?’ Quite clearly now the players have the ability to control the message.”
