Group condemns assassination attempt on Rivers Assembly Speaker
The Young Emerging Leaders Initiative (YELI) has condemned the alleged assassination attempt on factional Rivers Speaker Edison Ogerenye Ehie on Sunday.
Some men alleged to be political thugs invaded the home of the Speaker.
A statement by the Initiative titled “YELI Condemns Assassination on the Speaker, Rivers State House of Assembly,” reads: “The Young Emerging Leaders Initiative (YELI) expresses profound concern over verified reports detailing a heinous attack on the life of the Honorable Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, RT Hon. Barr. Edison Ogerenye Ehie (DSSRS), last night.
“The assailants were identified as a detachment of rogue police officers, led by Superintendent of Police Irikefe London Owen (attached to CTU B 3 RSV) and Chief Superintendent of Police Salihu Masalachi, accompanied by a group of dangerous thugs.

“YELI vehemently condemns, without reservation, the brazen attack on the residence of the Honorable Speaker, a prominent public official in Rivers State. It is deeply regrettable that an institution entrusted with the constitutional duty of safeguarding the lives and properties of citizens, especially public figures, would allow its operatives to engage in such illicit and reprehensible activities.”
At about 11pm on Sunday the 19th day of November, 2023, a group of armed thugs and rogue Police Officers led by one SP. Irikefe London Owen, a superintendent of Police attached to the CTU B 3 RSV and CSP Salihu Masalachi allegedly attacked the private residence of the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt.
However, the thugs and rogue Police Officers led by the two above-named police officers in Rivers State were vehemently repelled in a gun battle by the official security details attached to the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Barr. Edison Ogerenye Ehie, DSSRS.
