NPC collaborates with AIG-Imokhuede foundation to boost public sector efficiency

The Director-General of the National Productivity Centre (NPC), Dr. Baffa Babba Dan’Agundi, welcomed a team from the AIG-Imokhuede Foundation on Wednesday, marking a significant step in their collaborative efforts aimed at improving productivity and efficiency in Nigeria’s public sector.

This partnership, designed to enhance the performance of the public sector, focuses on two key objectives.

First, it seeks to improve the managerial and operational capabilities of Nigerian civil servants at the sub-national level through the introduction of innovative productivity tools and techniques.

By enhancing the skills of public sector leaders, the collaboration aims to drive labor productivity growth across Nigeria.

Second, the initiative will focus on strengthening the capacity for effective policy design and implementation, thereby promoting economic growth and improving public sector service delivery across the country.

Leading the AIG-Imokhuede Foundation team, Ms. Chioma Njoku, Director of Programmes, met with Dr. Dan’Agundi to review the progress of the partnership and discuss the next steps in achieving their shared goals.

In his welcoming remarks, Dr. Dan’Agundi expressed his confidence in the project, emphasizing the role of NPC’s network of productivity and management consultants, spread across 20 states, in ensuring its success.

He also commended Mrs. Ofovwe Aig-Imoukhuede, Executive Vice-Chairperson of the AIG-Imokhuede Foundation, for her dedication to improving public sector efficiency in Nigeria.

“I strongly believe that this collaboration will have a significant impact on civil servants in the selected states, driving improvements in productivity,” Dr. Dan’Agundi stated.

He further assured the visiting team of his full support for the project’s implementation, emphasizing his commitment to the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed earlier.

Ms. Njoku outlined the foundation’s activities and its alignment with the objectives of the NPC.

She highlighted that the meeting marked the beginning of a detailed work plan for effective programme execution.

“Our collaboration with NPC aims to address sector-specific challenges, build capacity, and foster collaboration among key stakeholders to boost public sector productivity,” she explained.

The partnership was formalized with the signing of the MOU on March 19, 2024.

The project will be piloted in 13 states—Ondo, Kebbi, Borno, Edo, Lagos, Nasarawa, Sokoto, Anambra, Bauchi, Imo, Kwara, Rivers, and Taraba—with a focus on the agricultural, industrial, and service sectors.

This initiative is poised to play a crucial role in advancing sustainable growth, innovation, and effectiveness within Nigeria’s public sector, empowering civil servants, and promoting stronger policy implementation to create a more efficient public service system.
