Group conducts free medical outreach in Lagos community

The Sam Zuga Foundation, an NGO,  on Tuesday commenced a five-day free medical outreach in Tedi Ojo community of Lagos State.

Dr Kelvin Eche, Leader of the outreach, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that the programme was to assist people of the area overcome their health challenges and promote healthy living.

According to him, the outreach had been scheduled in two sessions to ensure optimal accessibility by residents.

“The outreach has morning and afternoon sessions with the morning session commencing from 9.00 a.m to 12.00 p.m while the afternoon session commences from 3.oo p.m to 5.00 p.m.

“We would offer free treatment to indents with varying health challenges such as diabetes, hypertension, ulcer, hepatitis, eye defects among others.

“We would ensure that a great number of the indigenes access the free medical treatment,” he said.

He expressed worry over people’s inability to access medical care in conventional hospitals and urged relevant authorities to address the issue.

“We urge the people to abstain from foods and life styles that could cause illnesses and physical deformities,” Eche said.

Mrs Bisi Adesoji, an indigene of the community and a beneficiaries of the medical outreach, commended the initiative.

She told NAN that she was optimistic that the medical outreach would provide solution to her health challenge.

“I have been suffering from ulcer for three years and pray that God provides solution to it through this outreach,” she said.

Another beneficiary, Mr Alfred Apata , said the medical outreach would make great impact in the health of community members especially as the COVID-19 pandemic affected access to health care services.

He applauded the  initiative and called on other well-meaning individuals and organisations to emulate the Sam Zuga Foundation.
