Gunmen abduct another Catholic priest in Kaduna

Bandits have reportedly demanded N40 trillion as a ransom to release the 16 residents abducted from the Gonin Gora area of Kaduna, TheCableNG is reporting. Speaking with TheCable on Monday, John Yusuf, a community leader, said the bandits contacted family members of the victims and also demanded 11 Hilux vans and 150 motorcycles. This is the first time bandits would make such a huge demand since abduction for ransom started in Nigeria. On February 28, bandits k+lled two residents of Anguwan Auta in Gonin Gora and abducted several others. After the att+ck, residents of the area on February 29 blocked the Kaduna-Abuja highway for several hours to protest against the k+lling and abduction. Yusuf said the bandits att+cked the community twice within the week. “The bandits have contacted us. They are demanding N40 trillion, 11 Hilux vans and 150 motorcycles for the release of 16 people they are holding captive,” he said.

Gunmen on Tuesday abducted the Catholic Priest of St. Bernard, Idon Gida Parish, Rev. Fr. Abraham Kunat, in Kaduna State.

The Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the state, Rev. Joseph Hayab, who confirmed the incident to journalists in Kaduna, said the priest was abducted at St.Mulumba in Kachia local government area of the state at 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

He said: “The priest was picked at his village Kurmin Sara in Kachia LGA. It’s a very sad situation because many things are happening in the state unreported.

“We should relent, a lot needs to be done to secure our people from criminal elements making life difficult for us across the state.”
