Gunmen abduct Benue State’s Commissioner for Housing, Urban Development
Ekpe Ogbu, Benue state commissioner for housing and urban development, has been abducted by gunmen.
The commissioner was kidnapped on Sunday evening along the Otukpo-Ado road, Ado LGA of the state.
Three other persons were said to be in the commissioner’s car, but it is unconfirmed if they were also kidnapped.
Anene Sewuese, police public relations officer in Benue, confirmed the development on Monday morning.
The police spokesperson said officers have been dispatched to the area and that updates on the incident will be made public.
The latest development comes a month after about 20 people were killed following an attack by gunmen in Ukohol, Guma LGA of the state.
Children and security personnel were among those killed in the attack, while several properties were set ablaze.
Some gunmen had also attacked Gbeji, a settlement in Ukum LGA of the state, killing thirty-six persons including two policemen.
In September, no fewer than 14 residents were killed in Mchia community, Logo LGA of Benue, when gunmen invaded the area.
