Gunmen invade Nnewi, burn Joe Igbokwe residence
Gunmen on Sunday identified as proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) members on Sunday invaded Nnewi, Anambra State. The gunmen launched attacks on public and private property in the city. A female student of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University was said to be killed by the gunmen.
The gunmen also attacked the residence of former All Progressives Congress (APC), State Publicity Secretary in Lagos State, Engr. Joe Igbokwe, currently Special Adviser on Drainages and Water Resources to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, setting his residence on fire.
Igbokwe had accused IPOB members of invading Nnewi on Sunday afternoon, burning his residence.
The gunmen also attacked offices of the DSS and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Nnewi.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Anambra State Command, Tochukwu Ikenga, was to have disclosed that the command received a distress call of fire incidents in Nnewi at about 2.00pm on Sunday, adding that the police acted promptly, intensifying surveillance and patrol within the area to contain the situation.
The Police assured that investigation has commenced into the incidents.
