Gunmen struck at police station in Anambra, kill officers
The insecurity in Anambra State in the buildup to the November 6 governorship election is getting out of proportion. Gunmen on Thursday struck at a police station, killing some police in Ajalli, Orumba North Local Government Area, Anambra State.
The gunmen burnt the police station. Many suspects in police custody were said to be trapped in the building during the inferno.
Though, the police were said to have acknowledged the attack, but were silent on the death of officers, which videos had gone viral on social media.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the State Command, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, hade in a statement on Thursday evening indicated: “The CP noted that today, 30th September 2021, some yet to be identified heavily armed men stormed the Ajali Divisional Headquarters of the State and fired sporadically at police personnel on duty.
“They were, however, promptly engaged by the police officers before they fled the scene. “Unfortunately, two police personnel and a civilian sustained gunshot injuries while a patrol vehicle went in flames and the Police Station was partly torched.”
The statement further indicated that a joint team of Police and Military personnel immediately trailed the fleeing attackers and intercepted them along OKo Ajali road before the attackers escaped with gunshot injuries.
The PPRO said that the operatives recovered a highlander jeep and two motorcycles.
