Nollywood actress Ufuoma McDermott has shared her experience with kidney disease, revealing that she has been battling the illness for 12 years
Speaking in an interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo to the 43-year-old said she was diagnosed with stage three but it later progressed to stage four. “My weight, people do not understand when I say I cannot afford to put on weight, I do not want to die. I have little children. I had pushed my body andit was borderline stage 4.
Last year turned out to be one of the most challenging periods in my life, a time when I honestly believed that I might not make it through. For about twelve years now, I have been dealing with chronic kidney issues, and those struggles have often taken a toll on my health and well-being. During this particularly tough time, I found myself in a serious conversation with my doctor, who was trying to guide me toward what was best for my health.

She told me with a steady tone that I really needed to go home and rest, but I couldn’t help but push back gently against her suggestion. I responded by saying what if I go home and rest but only after I promise her that I would take some time to sleep today and then leave tomorrow? My intention was to reassure her that I understood the importance of rest but felt an urgency to be productive as well.
However, the doctor was adamant and stated clearly, “Ufuoma, I really need you to sleep right now.” She explained that if I could just take my medications and get some rest, it would be very beneficial for me. She stressed the importance of lowering my blood pressure and mentioned that my health needed to come first. To help with this, she mixed my medications carefully so that I would be able to manage my symptoms better. Despite my initial reluctance, the long and short of it is that I did eventually go back on set, adhering to her recommendations, recognizing that my health truly needed to be my priority at that moment.
