Hunger, anger grip bandits; criminals mount roadblock for food in Katsina
The Katsina police command insisted it was fake news. But residents of some communities in Kankara Local government believe there’s cause for alarm.
They claim bandits fleeing the kill zone in Zamfara have fanned across Katsina LGAs, hungry and angry.
A report by the Daily Trust stated a citizen insisting the bandits have mounted roadblocks where they stop and search motorists and passengers for fuel and food.
“Their main concerns now are food and fuel. They have some Jerry cans where they collect fuel from motorists and whatever food stuff they see, they collect it,” the newspaper reported.
The locals said the bandits even lay ambush for food trucks, and forcibly taking everything edible.
Police spokesman in Katsina, SP Gambo Isah, said, there could be an incident or two where such happened.
He stated the bandits are under pressure, and are freeing people in exchange for food.
He warned that should not be bandied around unnecessarily.
