JOS: Lawmakers rattled as Zangam mourners deposit 35 corpses on House premises
Word failed Speaker, Plateau House of Assembly, as mourners from Zangam descended on the assembly complex after a horde of bandits massacred locals overnight.
No fewer than 35 people were killed in the well-planned attack, besides scores of properties torched, and people displaced before security agents could arrive.
The killers were said to have destroyed the only bridge that led to the community so passage would be difficult.
Rt. Hon. Abok Ayuba could only call for calm and restraint as corpses of the people the attackers killed were brought to the chamber grounds.
“We are all affected by what is happening in Plateau, but please, calm down as government is doing everything possible to end the killings,” he said.
“We are your representatives. We are going to follow up with relevant authorities to ensure that peace returns to the state,” he said.
The Tuesday incident has thrown Jos north into panic now as Gov Simon Lalong introduced 24-hour curfew he recently relaxed.
