BY IFEOMA IKEM
Following the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) report, Chief Monday Lawrence, one of the leaders at Ladipo Auto Spare parts market in Lagos, has been recommended for trial for murder.
The Directorate of the Public Prosecution said on Thursday that Lawrence was culpable and should be tried for murder following a mayhem in March 2015, at the Odo Aladura section of Ladipo market over attempts to demolish shops in the market by some thugs which resulted in the death of a trader, Anene Otasi.
The incident also led to the destruction of properties worth millions of naira and other traders sustained various degrees of injuries.
National Daily gathered that the deceased, Otasi was brutally attacked with matchete and also shot on his head by thugs allegedly led by Lawrence. The deceased was said to have been rushed to Lagos University Teaching Hospital, (LUTH) where he eventually died.
The State Commissioner of Police, Mr Fatai Owoseni, ordered the arrest of Lawrence and he was charged before Igbosere Magistrate court with alleged violence and death of one the trader.
His plea was not taken and remanded in prison custody while his file was sent to DPP for advice.
