Liverpool eye shock move to re-sign £15m star amid Palace, Forest interest

Liverpool are reportedly considering a move to re-sign former academy midfielder Tyler Morton from Lyon, with Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest also monitoring the 23-year-old.

According to TeamTalk’s Graeme Bailey, Liverpool have retained an interest in Morton following his impressive spell in France, while Palace and Forest are also keeping tabs on the defensive midfielder.

Morton came through Liverpool’s academy after joining the club at the age of seven and made 14 senior appearances before leaving permanently in August 2025.

He joined Lyon for €15 million, with Liverpool retaining a 20 per cent sell-on clause.

The move to France has proved significant for Morton, who quickly established himself as a regular in Paulo Fonseca’s side.

Since the beginning of last season, he has featured in 53 of Lyon’s 58 matches, starting 49 of them. His only absences came through suspension and injury.

Morton also scored for Lyon in their Champions League qualifying campaign against Sparta Prague, although the French club were later eliminated by Fenerbahce in the play-off round.

His performances have made him one of Lyon’s important players, with his passing ability particularly standing out.

According to SofaScore figures for Ligue 1 last season, Morton ranked eighth among midfielders for total passes and accurate passes, while also placing 10th for average match rating.

He completed 1,516 passes, including 1,331 accurate passes, while recording 48 tackles, 22 interceptions and 98 duels won.

Morton has largely operated at the base of Lyon’s midfield, where his ability to dictate play from deep has made him an important part of Fonseca’s system.

Liverpool could now explore the possibility of bringing the England youth international back to Anfield as they assess their midfield options.

The Reds currently have several players capable of operating centrally, although Morton’s ability to control possession from a deeper position could offer a different option.

With Palace and Forest also reportedly monitoring his progress, Morton could attract further interest if he continues his development in France
