Liverpool beat Villarreal 5-2 on aggregate to reach Champions League final
Liverpool beat Villarreal 5-2 on aggregate in their semi-final two-legged matches to qualify to qualify for the final of this year’s Champions League. Having won the first 2 goals in England, the Liverpool defeated Villarreal 3-2 in the second led in Spain.
Villarreal had scored 2 goals in the first half of the match at the Estadio de la Ceramica, cancelling the 2 goals deficit of the first leg and raising hope of scaling into the final. Boulaye Dia had scored the opening goal for Villarreal in the third minute, while Francis Coquelin scored the second goal to draw level at 2-2.
Liverpool, however, came back strongly in the second half, scoring three goals through Fabinho, Luis Diaz and Sadio Mane, to sail into the final on 5-2 aggregate.
Another English team, Manchester City, will be playing another Spanish team, Real Madrid, in the second leg of the second semi-final on Wednesday to determine which club will play Liverpool in the final of the Champions League.
Real Madrid will be playing Manchester City at the Santiago Bernabeu with one goal after City won the first leg 4-3 in England.
