Man, 22, jailed 1 month for stealing cell phone
An Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court, on Thursday, sentenced a 22-year-old man, Dele Awolusi, to one month imprisonment for stealing cell phone.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Titilayo Ola-Olorun, sentenced Awolusi following his guilty plea and facts of the case.
Ola-Olorun, however, gave the convict an option of N10, 000 fine.
The police prosecutor, Insp. Johnson Okunade, had told the court that the convict committed the crime on Nov.22 at about 10:00 am at Orere Owu Area in Ado-Ekiti.
Okunade said that the convict went to a place where people were charging their phones, entered into the place and unplug one of the phones, Infinix smart valued N35,000 belonging to Mr Ayodele Akinyemi.
He said it was the complainant that apprehended him, after he had stolen the phone and was taken to the police station.
According to him, the convict was a habitual criminal, who had stolen bags and phone twice, but got released at the police station after the stolen properties were recovered and given to the owner.
He added that the convict confessed to the crime while the phone was recovered from him.
Okunade said the offence contravened Section 302 of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State, 2021.
