Man, 40, accused of hacking teenager to death
An Ebute Meta Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Wednesday ordered the remand of a 40-year-old man, Kehinde Bioyo, for allegedly hacking a teenager to death.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Chief Magistrate O. O. Olatunji, in his ruling, ordered that Bioyo be remanded in Ikoyi Prison pending legal advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
He, thereafter, adjourned the matter till June 17. Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp Oladele Adebayo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on April 24 at Kadara St., Ebute Meta, Lagos.
He alleged that the defendant had used a matchete to hack the teenager, Basit Badmus, 18, to death.
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of Section 223 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
It was reported that Section 223 stipulates death sentence for offenders.
