Man pays community N100,000 to cover up defilement of 14-yr-old
A man identified as Joe, an electrician by trade, allegedly defied a 14-year-old girl in her room while armed with a knife.
The suspect was said to have threatened to kill the victim if she shouted or told anyone about his presence, before having a carnal knowledge of her.
According to the CrossRiverWatch, it was gathered that Joe works as the chief electrician at Mega Hilton hotel, a hospitality facility that belongs to the family of Cross River Governor, Benedict Ayade in Obudu.
National Daily further learnt that Joe had last Thursday evening defiled the girl (names withheld) who resides along Ukwel-Obudu road in Obudu local government area located about 300 kilometres north of the southern port city of Calabar, the Cross River State capital.
The girl was said to be the granddaughter of a former Security Adviser in the Obudu local government council, who currently lectures at the Federal College of Education Obudu.
Sensing that he was going to be evicted and punished by the community, the suspect was said to have swiftly bought five cartons of beer and invited the youths in the Abonkib and neighbouring communities and few influential elders and gave a lavish entertainment, pleading for forgiveness hence the youths stopped mobbing him on the excuse that he was an asthmatic patient.
The community later fined him the sum of N100,000 as punishment with the case buried without reporting the matter to the police.
