Man sets pregnant wife ablaze over alleged infidelity
A 30-year-old man, Motunrayo Olaniyi, has been arrested by Lagos police for allegedly killing his pregnant wife, Olajumoke, and setting her body on fire following a heated domestic dispute in their Ikorodu apartment.
The tragic incident occurred on Friday, October 4, at Amazing Grace Estate, Elepe community, after Olaniyi reportedly accused his 25-year-old wife of infidelity.
According to residents, the couple’s argument escalated, leading Olaniyi to fatally stab his wife before setting their room ablaze.
Neighbors immediately alerted authorities, who arrived at the scene to find the lifeless body of Olajumoke with multiple stab wounds, particularly in the abdominal area.
Benjamin Hundeyin, spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, confirmed the incident in a statement. He detailed how Olaniyi, after stabbing his wife, attempted to harm himself with mild self-inflicted wounds before locking himself in the room with her body.

When police arrived, they managed to rescue the suspect from the burning apartment. Olaniyi was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, after which he was taken into police custody.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the husband stabbed his wife during an altercation and gave himself minor stabs,” Hundeyin stated.
The police have since deposited Olajumoke’s body at Ikorodu General Hospital for autopsy, and an investigation is ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the crime.
This tragic case has sent shockwaves through the Ikorodu community, with many questioning how a domestic altercation could escalate to such a violent outcome.
