May Day! One Portugal player down, he may never play football again
In the 78th minute of Everton’s clash with Tottenham Hotspur at Goodison Park, a tackle by Son Heung-min on Andre Gomes left the South Korean in a flood of tears after seeing the state of the Portuguese midfielder’s ankle.
Gomes ended up crashing into Serge Aurier after the tackle, with the TV images afterwards showing the extent of the Everton star’s injury.
The former Barcelona player left the pitch on a stretcher, while Son, who was sent off, could not believe what had happened. Aurier, meanwhile, prayed for Gomes away from where he was lying.
The reaction of Lucas Moura and Son when they see Gomes is understandable; they put their hands to their face and looked away.
As this was going on, Everton players Lucas Digne, Fabian Delph and Cenk Tosun tried to comfort Gomes, who was clearly in a lot of agony, as shown by the pictures.
Son was particularly affected until he left the pitch.
As we wait to discover the extent of the injury, it is almost certain that Gomes will be out for several months due to this injury.
