Messi pays tribute to Maradona, poses with jersey from USA ’94 World Cup
Lionel Messi has paid tribute to Argentina’s soccer idol, Diego Maradona, by posing in the kit he wore when he scored his last goal for his country.
At the 1994 World Cup match between Argentina and Greece which was held in the United States, Maradona scored in the game before he was thrown out of the tournament after testing positive for ephedrine, Daily Mail reports on Monday.
The symbolism of Messi wearing the shirt will not be lost on his fans across the globe.
In 2022, Messi propelled the Argentine team to World Cup glory and established himself as Maradona did.
Messi who is now based in the United States and playing for Inter Miami scored a sensational 90th-minute winner in his first game against Cruz Azul on Friday, July 21 in the League Cup.
