Molete violence: Trader challenges Accord Party’s claim on cause of clash
A market operator has disputed the Accord Party Campaign Council’s account of Wednesday’s clash in Molete, Ibadan, Oyo State, alleging that supporters of the party were responsible for the chaos.
The allegation contradicts the account given by Samuel Ibikunle, popularly known as Arugbo Boiz, spokesperson for the Accord Party Campaign Council, who claimed that hoodlums affiliated with another political party attacked Accord members during a procession.
In messages shared with journalists, the individual, who identified himself as a market operator, described the incident differently, insisting that the events leading to the confrontation were contrary to the campaign council’s version.
The source also claimed that videos documenting the incident were available, including footage allegedly recorded by other traders in the market.
However, the identity of the market operator and the authenticity and full context of the videos were not independently established in the information provided.
The conflicting accounts have raised questions about the circumstances surrounding the Molete clash, including how the confrontation started and the individuals responsible.
As of the time of filing this report, no independent evidence had been presented to conclusively establish responsibility for the incident.
Further clarification from the parties involved and an independent review of available video footage would be necessary to determine what transpired during the confrontation.
