In an effort to create a more transparent and consumer-friendly telecom sector, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has announced plans to streamline tariff plans offered by telecom operators and service providers.
This initiative, aimed at simplifying user choices and reducing confusion, was detailed by Ikechukwu Adinde, the NCC’s Director of Consumer Affairs Bureau, during a media stakeholders’ workshop in Lagos focused on industry trends and consumer education.
Adinde outlined the complications associated with the current system, noting that the multitude of promotional packages and add-ons often leave consumers overwhelmed and unable to identify the best-suited options.
“One network currently offers 14 voice plans and 145 data plans, while another provides 27 voice plans and 41 data plans,” he said, highlighting the complexity of navigating these choices.
The proposed streamlining of tariff plans seeks to mitigate these challenges by enabling consumers to easily understand and compare available options, facilitating more informed decision-making.

This approach is designed to address data depletion concerns and bolster consumer satisfaction across the board.
To further assist users, Adinde mentioned that the NCC has strengthened its educational efforts by publishing approved tariff plans on its website and offering guidance on data management and cost-effective usage through online resources.
He urged consumers to actively monitor their data consumption and utilize these tools for better budget management.
“The NCC’s commitment is to enhance consumer awareness and ensure that Nigerians can confidently navigate data and voice services without confusion,” Adinde emphasized.
The commission expects that these changes will lead to a telecom market that is both simpler and more transparent, benefiting millions of users across the country.
